Bulldog Softball Lands Five on All-SCIAC Teams

REDLANDS, Calif. - The 2022 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Softball honors were announced Wednesday, following a vote by the league's member head coaches.

The University of Redlands collected the hardware with five Bulldogs being named All-SCIAC, tied for the most within the conference which included Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) and Tyesen Gordon (Lathrop, CA) landing on the 1st Team and Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA), Paige Messenlehner (Fresno, CA), and Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, HI) finding themselves on the 2nd Team.

Allen, a sophomore who was named the 2021 SCIAC Athlete of the Year and the 2021 SCIAC Newcomer of the Year proved herself once again here in 2022 being named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year for the second time and landing on the 1st Team as the top shortstop in the conference.  This season within conference she batted .433 with 29 hits, four triples, nine homeruns, 26 RBI's, 27 runs scored, an OBP of .542 and a slugging percentage of .955.  Defensively, she totaled a .944 fielding percentage with 44 putouts and 57 assists.   

In SCIAC she ranked No. 1 in Plate Appearances, Runs Scored, Home Runs, RBI's, Total Bases, and Slugging Percentage.  She then ranked No. 2 in Triples and Walks, No. 3 in Hits and On-Base Percentage, and No. 5 in Batting Average.

Gordon, a senior put up big numbers this season as she finds herself on the 1st Team for the first time in her career, proving to be the top first baseman in the conference.  This year she batted .437 with 31 hits, which included nine doubles, three triples, and a homerun.  She also added 15 RBI's, 13 runs scored, an OBP of .494 and a slugging percentage of .690.  Defensively, she was outstanding with a .992 fielding percentage, which included 119 putouts and five assists. 

In SCIAC she ranked No. 1 in Doubles, No. 2 in Hits and Total Bases, No. 3 in At-Bats, Triples, and Batting Average, and No. 5 in On-Base Percentage. 

Stallings, who was named the 2021 SCIAC Pitcher of the Year and 1st Team All-SCIAC was in the running again this season, but this time finds herself on the 2nd Team after she went 8-2 in 12 starts with eight complete games, a 3.36 ERA, 25 strikeouts, a 2.33 K/7 Innings, while limiting opponents to a .314 batting average.

But Stallings was also a dual threat who could also hit, batting .255 with five doubles, four runs scored, three walks and 12 RBI's.    

In SCIAC she ranked No. 1 in Wins, Games Started and At-Bats Against, No. 2 in Innings Pitched and Appearances, No. 3 in Complete Games, No. 4 in ERA, and No. 9 in Strikeouts. 

Messenlehner, who is in her first season with the Maroon and Grey lands on the 2nd Team as a Utility player, proving to be a versatile player who could play any position and bat anywhere in the lineup and still be productive.  She totaled 65 at-bats, hitting .323 with four doubles, a triple, 18 runs scored, eight RBI's, seven walks, an OBP of .392 and a slugging percentage of .415.  Defensively, she posted a .951 fielding percentage with four double plays, 14 assists, and 44 putouts. 

In SCIAC she ranked No. 3 in Runs Scored, No. 6 in Triples, No. 8 in Stolen Bases, No. 9 in Sacrifice Flies, and No. 10 in Walks.

The final Bulldog to make her way onto the 2nd Team was junior Kershner as another Utility player who proved instrumental in the success for the Maroon and Grey.  She was the starting center fielder at the start of the season and was then called upon to fill the No. 2 slot for pitching after injuries plagued the team early.  She took the additional responsibilities with a smile on her face and was a dual threat both batting and in the circle.  When Stallings threw she would play centerfield and posted a .373 batting average with nine doubles, a triple, two homeruns, six walks, three stolen bases, 15 runs scored, 22 RBI's, an OBP of .413 and a slugging percentage of .627.

In the circle she was also impressive finishing with a 6-4 record in 46.2 innings pitched along with 25 strikeouts, five complete games, one shutout and a 3.45 ERA.  Her big weekend came in a series against the University of La Verne where she was called upon to throw all three games and picked up all three wins that propelled the Bulldogs atop the conference standings. 

In SCIAC she ranked No. 1 in Doubles, No. 2 in Sacrifice Flies, No. 3 in RBI's, Wins, and Shutouts, and No. 4 in Appearances.

Redlands looks forward to hosting the upcoming SCIAC Tournament this weekend and will open with a match-up against No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 1:30pm on Friday, May 6.
