Bulldog Softball Opens SCIAC with 8-3 win over Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team got their first test within Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Friday afternoon beating Pomona-Pitzer 8-3.

The Maroon and Grey remain perfect here in 2022 at 3-0, 1-0 SCIAC.

After two scoreless innings to start the game the Sagehens got on the scoreboard with a three-spot in the bottom half of the 3rd capitalizing on a UR throwing error.

But their offense would stall there as they would be held to just six hits across seven innings and would be held scoreless the rest of the way as Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) picked up her second win on the season after going a complete game with a pair of strikeouts.

Redlands got those runs back quickly in the top half of the 4th putting together four runs on five hits, while using a PP error to go on top for the first time.  With the bases loaded and two outs the Bulldogs rallied with Paige Messenlehner (Fresno, CA) singling to center, Alexa Yarbro (Murrieta, CA) reaching on a fielders choice and Natalie Horton (Palmdale, CA) driving one to left that scored another two.

After that UR tacked on insurance in the 6th with another three runs this time with Stallings and Tyesen Gordon (Lathrop, CA) both doubling through the left side that moved the score to 7-3.  Then in the 7th, Horton drove in another this time with a single to center that brought in Messenlehner.

Horton continues to swing a hot bat at the top of the lineup going 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI's.  Stallings was 2-for-4 scoring once and driving in two and Messenlehner and Gordon combined to go 4-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBI's.

Redlands wraps up the series with Pomona-Pitzer tomorrow, Saturday, February 19 with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
