The University of Redlands softball team welcomed the Cal Lutheran Regals to the Field of Dreams for a doubleheader on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Redlands downed the visiting team, 10-1, in a shortened game one, before walking off in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 victory in game two.

Despite the Regals tacking on a single run in the top of the first, Redlands recorded multi-run innings in the first, second, and third and held off any more CLU scores for an eventual, 10-1 win in five innings.

The Maroon and Gray scored three runs in the bottom of the first on two hits, two CLU miscues, and a wild pitch to retake the lead at 3-1.

The Bulldog offense stayed hot in the second, starting off with two base hits. With two on, junior shortstop Natalie Horton (Palmdale, CA) sent an RBI single to center-field. Senior left fielder Tsianina Flores (Corona, CA) then dinged a double to the center-field fence for another run. Sophomore catcher Megan Watkins (Beaumont, CA) capped off the scoring with a two-out, two-RBI single for an 8-1 Bulldog advantage after two.

Junior right fielder Kayla Rivas (Whittier, CA) led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot to left field. Sophomore third baseman Madison Alves (Kingsburg, CA) followed that up with a triple to center and was sent home two batters later on a first-year second baseman Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) single up the middle to spread the distance to 10-1.

First-year pitcher Kassidy Millar (Everett, WA) pitched the fourth and fifth and only faced seven Regal batters, allowing one walk and striking out two in an impressive outing to secure the shortened, 10-1, win.

With the sweep on the line, the third game was a lot closer than the first two, however, the Bulldogs got it done in the bottom of the seventh to walk away with a 5-4 victory.

Redlands struck first in game two with a single run on one hit to go up early in the contest. However, the Regals matched the run in the top of the third to tie things up at one.

The Bulldogs had chances in the fourth but could not bring their baserunners all the way around for the score to remain knotted.

Senior Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) took over pitching duties and went 1, 2, 3, in the top of the fifth to put the Bulldogs back on offense quickly. Unfortunately, CLU managed three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead 4-1.

Nonetheless, Redlands answered the call in the bottom of that inning to tie the game once again at 4-4. After Stallings reached first on an error, K. Rivas sent a ball halfway up the right-field fence for a long double. Alves traded places with her for a bases-clearing double. The Bulldogs tacked on their third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Stallings remained calm in a pressure situation in the top of the seventh with two Regal runners on base. She struck out and forced a groundout to secure the final two outs, not allowing CLU to do any damage.

With time running out, in the bottom of the seventh, sophomore center fielder Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, CA) found her way on base on another Regal miscue. Watkins then laced a double down the left-field line for two runners in scoring position. Stallings followed that with a single to right-field and the walk-off, 5-4, win to complete the three-game sweep of Cal Lutheran.

Redlands (3-4, 3-0 SCIAC) returns to action on Friday, April 16, with a single game at Chapman at 2 p.m.
