Junior Catcher Nova Siegel Named SCIAC Softball Athlete of the Week

Nova Siegel was named the SCIAC Softball Athlete of the Week.

It was announced earlier today that junior catcher Nova Siegel (Fairfield, CA) became one of two student-athletes to represent the University of Redlands among this week's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (SCIAC) honorees.  Siegel was named the SCIAC Softball Athlete of the Week and gains the first such honor in Head Coach Liz Slupinski's two-year tenure at Redlands.  In addition, the Bulldogs reeled in the weekly accolade for women's tennis, with sophomore Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) representing Redlands.

During the week of February 19-25, Siegel provided big plays at the plate, both as a batter and catcher for the Bulldogs in their 1-1 weekend against Whittier College.  She earned a batting average of .867 with a 6-for-7 performance while never striking out and providing three RBI and two runs scored.  In the Maroon and Gray's 10-8, second-game win, she went 4-for-4, drove in two runs, and scored two others.

Defensively, she was flawless as the Maroon and Gray's backstop, with 10 putouts, two assists, and no errors in 14 innings of work.

Siegel and the Bulldog softball team look forward to hosting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Friday, March 2, for a SCIAC doubleheader at the Field of Dreams.
