Talented Trio Represents Redlands Softball on All-SCIAC Teams

It was announced earlier today that three University of Redlands softball players landed on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Teams for their contributions throughout the 2017 season.  Junior catcher Lali Garza (Granite Bay, CA) earned a First-Team nod, while senior outfielder Amanda Ang (Santa Cruz, CA) collected Second-Team honors.  In addition, junior shortstop Ursyla Baumgarten (Penngrove, CA) represented Redlands on the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Garza receives her first All-Conference award with this season's award.  During the 2017 campaign, she stepped up as the team's primary catcher by competing in 22 SCIAC games.  At the plate, she tallied a .375 batting average, which came off of 24 hits, including three doubles and two home runs.  She provided eight RBI and registered a slugging percentage of .516.  Behind the dish, she consistently served as a solid backstop for the Maroon and Gray en route to an excellent fielding percentage of .978 as the team's leader in putouts with 84 against SCIAC foes.

Ang caps off a great four-year career as a Bulldog by becoming an All-SCIAC honoree for the first time.  While competing in 28 conference games, she led the team in at-bats (91), runs (19), hits (32), and stolen bases (6).  With a batting average of .352, she notched five doubles and one triple to go along with 12 RBI.

Finally, Baumgarten represents the Bulldogs on the All-Sportsmanship Team for her steady, positive pursuit of excellence.

Head Coach Liz Slupinski stated, "Ursyla does a phenomenal job exemplifying what it means to be a Bulldog softball player. She lives our core values on a daily basis, which means she is hard-working, accountable, passionate, respectful, resilient, positive, and humble."

The All-SCIAC teams are nominated by and voted upon the head coaches of each member school.  For a complete list, please visit the SCIAC website.
