No. 9 Bulldog Softball Topped by No. 1 Linfield Wildcats

The ninth-ranked University of Redlands softball team suffered two losses to the No. 1 team in the nation, Linfield College (OR), on Tuesday, falling to the Wildcats by respective scores of 0-3 and 0-10.

Junior starting pitcher Kayla Uphold (Fontana, CA) gave the Bulldogs a fighting chance in the day's opening contest, but the offense just couldn't quite click at the right moment. Uphold held the Wildcat lineup to just three runs for only the third time during the 2012 season. She scattered 11 hits over the seven-inning effort while ringing up three batters.

The Bulldogs' best scoring opportunities came in the later innings as the squad left two runners on base in both the fifth and sixth frame.

Senior third baseman Molly Duran (Corona, CA) collected two base-knocks, leading to her second multi-hit game in the past four contests.

Sophomore centerfielder Amanda Lievanos (Anaheim, CA) added to her team-leading numbers by smacking a double into the right field in the bottom of the sixth for her seventh of the year.

Redlands stumbled in the second half of the twin bill, earning its second five-inning loss of this season.

As the No. 5 and No. 6 hitters, Uphold and senior catcher Kai Masutani (Honolulu, HI) led the offense by going a combined 2-for-3 at the dish.

In the circle, senior lefty Breanna Ruelas (Brawley, CA) took the loss after chucking three innings and giving up eight runs.

The Bulldogs (19-7, 13-1) look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent, Cal Lutheran University, in a doubleheader at 12 noon.
