Bulldog Softball Ousted from NCAA Tournament in 1-4 Loss to Wisconsin-La Crosse

The third-seeded University of Redlands softball team fell short in today's elimination game of the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships, ending the season on a 1-4 loss to the second-seeded University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The Maroon and Gray struck first in the bottom of the second when sophomore second baseman Molly Duran (Corona, CA) provided an RBI-single to left center, plating sophomore right fielder Kirstie Bender (Lakewood, CA) from second.

La Crosse evened the score in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring double by Katie Keyes.

UWL put up two runs by taking advantage of picture-perfect bunts and a well-timed triple in the fifth inning.

The Eagles managed an insurance run off of an error in the seventh, resulting in the final tally of 4-1.

Unfortunately, the Bulldog bats went quiet, mustering only two hits on the day, while the Redlands defense chalked up three errors in the loss.

Duran was credited with the teams' only hits, going 2-for-2 against the Eagles.

Sophomore hurler Breanna Ruelas (Brawley, CA) suffered the loss from the circle in five innings of work.

Redlands finishes out the season with a 32-14 overall record, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the sixth consecutive year.
