Redlands Softball Makes Early Exit from NCAA Championships

Despite a 3-1 lead going into the sixth inning, the University of Redlands suffered elimination from the First Round of the NCAA Championships on Friday as UT-Tyler (41-8) came back to earn the 5-3 victory.

After giving up a run in the second inning, Redlands answered with scores on a single from junior designated player Roxy Lambert (La Jolla, CA) and a sacrifice fly from freshman third baseman Aleisha Martinez (Escondido, CA) in the bottom of the inning.

The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single from junior second baseman Dory Baga (Aiea, HI) that scored senior short stop Melanie Hamlin (Redlands, CA).

In the top of the sixth, UT Tyler’s bats came alive as the Patriots scored four runs off of four hits with one Redlands error in the inning.

The Bulldogs struggled to respond in the seventh due to the steady play of the Patriots’ defense and pitching staff.

Following its fourth-consecutive NCAA appearance, Redlands heads home with a 34-12 overall record.
