ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Saturday with a solid 10-6 win over Chapman University.

The Bulldogs used a first half where they outscored the Panthers 5-2, to move their record to 6-6, 1-0 SCIAC.

It was a low scoring first quarter with just two goals being scored.  UR received theirs from Callum Norman (Johannesburg, South Africa) who had the first tally of the game at the 6:28 mark.

Following the game-tying goal from the Panthers midway through the first the Bulldogs scored four unanswered in the second over the course of 3:27. During the run Drake Moody (Camarillo, CA) scored a pair with the middle two goals coming from Max Wagener (Piedmont, CA) and Andrew Higginson (San Diego, CA).

Chapman started the third quarter off strong cutting the deficit to two, 5-3. But a minute later Higginson would respond with his second of the game, followed by Spencer Sellwood (Irvine, CA) who found his way onto the score sheet with the eventual game-winning goal as the lead grew to 7-3.

The rest of the way Moody picked up his third and fourth goals and Wagener joined him and Higginson with a multi-goal day as the Bulldogs would go on to win by four.

Redlands scored 10 goals on 39 shots and were able to overcome an 0-5 mark on powerplays.  Liam Murphy (Placentia, CA) led the defense playing all 32:00 minutes in goal finishing with nine saves, a steal and a .600 save percentage.

With a conference win in hand, the Bulldogs play a non-conference game against Ottawa University (Ariz.) at the Thompson Aquatic Center this Thursday, September 29 beginning at 6:00pm.
