U of R Men's Water Polo Heads to SCIAC Postseason Tournament for the First Time

With the exciting 10-9 win against Chapman University last weekend, the University of Redlands men's water polo team advanced to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament for the first time since the event's inception in 2017.

As the No. 4 seed, the Bulldogs own a 15-14 overall record and 8-6 mark in conference. The Maroon and Gray have won two straight and four of the last five games following a pair of 10-9 victories to close out the regular season.

Senior attacker Spencer Allen (Long Beach, CA) leads the Bulldog offense with 63 goals, while senior center Cooper Krause (Denver, CO) ranks second on the team with 47. Allen also paces the team with 44 steals, while Krause has 49 ejections drawn.

Against conference opponents, Allen sits fifth in the SCIAC with 32 goals for 46 points. He also takes the sixth spot in sprints with a .714 winning percentage.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Martinez (Santa Ana, CA) patrols the cage for the Bulldogs in the majority of contests with 179 overall saves and currently ranks sixth in the conference with 83 saves in SCIAC competition. 

Whittier enters the tournament as the top seed after posting a 17-12 overall record and 13-1 mark in SCIAC play during the regular season. The Poets have qualified for the four-team postseason tournament three years in a row.

The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges will take on second-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the other semifinal game in Claremont on Friday at 7 p.m.  The winners of the semifinal matches will face each other in the tournament championship on Sunday, November 24, at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Admission is free for any students or employees with a current SCIAC ID. General admission costs $10, while senior citizens 55 and over and military personnel with ID are $5. Children under 12 receive free admission.
