Three Outstanding Redlands Men's Water Polo Players Receive ACWPC DIII All-America Distinction

It was announced earlier today by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) that three University of Redlands student-athletes garnered a spot among the 2016 NCAA Division III All-America Teams. Redlands' standout, senior center-defender Danny Hartwig (Vista, CA) was named to the First Team, senior goalkeeper Chris Sekula (Naperville, IL) represented the Bulldogs on the Second Team, and junior center-defender Max Taylor (Henderson, NV) rounded out the accolades with an Honorable Mention.

These student-athletes helped boost their team to an 18-15 overall record and a 7-4 mark in conference for a fourth-place finish in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). This season was highlighted by significant wins over multiple Division I schools such as San Jose State and Air Force Academy. All three of these contributors were named to the All-SCIAC team earlier this season.

While reeling in his inaugural All-America award, Hartwig topped the Redlands stat sheets by blasting off 51 total goals on the season. He also helped out by providing six assists, swiping 23 steals, and recording 22 drawn ejections. As a senior, he provided veteran leadership to the younger players.

Following last year's First-Team nod, Sekula collects his second-consecutive ACWPC accolade. Sekula used his senior leadership to anchor the team from the cage. He takes the second spot for most career goalkeeper saves with 1,048, after providing 341 of those during the 2016 season. He also helped nabbed 26 steals and provided excellent ball distribution on the counter attack.

Rounding out the trio of honorees, Taylor receives a well-deserved Honorable Mention in his first season with the Bulldogs. He contributed 50 goals, 16 assists, 25 steals, and 30 drawn ejections.
