REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team threatened No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday afternoon falling 6-3 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs picked up a point in doubles and then notched two singles points, but it wasn't enough to grab the upset as they move to 7-6, 2-1 SCIAC.

Nils Plutat (Sauerlach, Bavaria, Germany) and Bryce Keim (Spartanburg, S.C.) remain perfect together in doubles as they rattled off another win at the top spot this time taking out Christian Settles and Matthew Robinson 8-4.  This came after the other two Bulldog teams would fall 8-4 (No. 2 – Jack Mattox (Mercer Island, WA) and Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA)) and 8-1 (No. 3 – Omar Khayat (Irvine, CA) and Tyler Pyle (Lake Oswego, OR)).

First-year Khayat grabbed his biggest win of his career taking out Schilling at No. 6 6-0, 6-3 thanks to taking the first nine games of the match.  This leveled things at 2-2.  Keim was the second match off at No. 2 falling 6-1, 6-2 to Robinson putting CMS back on top.  Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) moved up to No. 3 for the first time this season due to the absence of Stefan Hester (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) and he had to face a tough match-up with Freer dropping in straights 6-2, 6-3.  Plutat tried to keep his winning streak intact at the top spot but went up against Advik Mareedu, the No. 1 ranked player in the West Region.  He put up a fight but was broken once in each set falling 6-3, 6-4 watching the Stags clinch the win.

Davydov was the next off coming at No. 5 and after a quick 6-2 set in the first put up a battle in the second only to fall 7-5.  Redlands was able to get one last point on the afternoon thanks to Mattox at No. 4 who grinded out a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Settles, moving the final score to 6-3.

Redlands returns to the courts this Tuesday, April 4 when they host No. 13 Caltech beginning at 3:00pm at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
