
REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team dropped their second of their last three matches this time coming against No. 21 Amherst College falling 8-1 at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs, who move to 4-3 on the season found themselves down 2-1 after doubles with the lone point coming at No. 2 from Stefan Hester (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) and Jack Mattox (Mercer Island, WA) who pulled out an 8-6 win. The other two matches were tight, but both went the way of the Mammoths. Bryce Keim (Spartanburg S.C.) and Nils Plutat (Sauerlach, Bavaria, Germany) fell 8-5 at No. 1 and Omar Khayat (Irvine, CA) and Luca Davidorf (Atlanta, GA) would fall by the same score 8-5 at No. 3.
In singles two matches went the distance but they came after Amherst had clinched the match winning four straight points in singles. Mattox fell at No. 4 6-2, 6-4 against No. 45 ranked Kobe Ellenbogen, Khayat dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 6, Keim at No. 3 fell 6-1, 7-6 (7) and Hester despite grinding at No. 2 would fall 6-3, 7-6 (7).
The last two matches on needed third-set breakers coming at No. 1 from Plutat who dropped the opening set 6-4 only to take the second 6-4 before falling 10-8 in the breaker. The other full match came at No. 5 from Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) who took the opening frame 6-2 before falling 6-1, 6-1.
Redlands returns to the court Thursday, March 23 with a morning match-up at 11:00am against No. 5 Tufts. The match will take place, weather permitting at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
