CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team is preparing to make a deep run at the ITA Division III West Regional set to take place this weekend, Friday-Sunday, September 30-October 2.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer are hosting with three flights of singles and a main draw for doubles.
The Bulldogs have thirteen players competing between Flights A, B, and C for singles, which includes four returners and nine newcomers. Eight of the thirteen will also team up to play doubles.
In Flight A, seven Bulldogs are competing with four of them being new transfers, three from Portland State and another from Wofford College. Bryce Keim (Spartanburg, S.C.) (Wofford) will take on an All-SCIAC performer and the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year Spencer Cinco (Whittier College), Nils Plutat (Sauerlach, Bavaria, Germany) (Portland State), who comes in as the No. 4 seed will faceoff against Ishaan Kannan (Caltech), Ollie Richards (Whitstable, England) (Portland State) will matchup with No. 7 seed Kush Patel (Pomona-Pitzer), and Ting Hao Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) (Portland State), the No. 6 seed will round out the transfers taking on Eshaan Lumba (Pomona-Pitzer). The returners who are playing in this flight include Stefan Hester (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) who will take on Warren Pham (Claremont-M-S), Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) will face Kyle McCandless (Caltech), and Jack Mattox (Mercer Island, WA) will faceoff with Eugen Andres (Occidental). Each of these matches will be played at 11:00am with the exception being for Mattox who will play at 12:00pm.
All four Bulldogs competing in the Flight B draw are all freshman newcomers. Luca Davidorf (Atlanta, GA) will take on Isaac Herrenkohl (Occidental) beginning at 12:30pm, Tyler Pyle (Lake Oswego, OR) will have a good opening match with the No. 7 seed Lucas Pastor (Colorado College) at 12:30pm, Omar Khayat (Irvine, CA) will matchup against Nathan Zou (Caltech) at 12:00pm, and Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) will take on Victor Li (Caltech) at 12:00pm.
The last two Bulldogs competing in singles, taking place in the Flight C Draw will be Cameron McDaniel (Laguna Niguel, CA) who will take on Luuk Van den Hoek (Whittier) and Arjun Shah (Auckland, New Zealand) who will go against Hangyu Ai. Both matches set for 12:30pm.
Doubles will get the West Regional started with four teams competing for the Maroon and Grey, three of which are seeded. Keim and Plutat will be the team to watch as they come in as the No. 3 seed and will take on Jacob De La Paz and Friedrich Ludwig (California Lutheran University). Mattox and Richards will be a pair for the first time and earned the No. 5 seed and will take on Kiernan Carroll and Luuk Van den Hoek (Whittier). Hao Hsu and Hester will also come together for the first time as the No. 5 seed and will take on Luca De Bona and Luca Braan (Whittier).
The last team competing will be Khayat and Davydov who will take on the No. 4 seed Kyle McCandless and Daniel Wen (Caltech). All four doubles matches set for 8:30am.
