ITA Division III National Rankings
REDLANDS, Calif. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the final national and regional rankings for 2021-22 with the University of Redlands Men's Tennis team landing within the Top-30.
After winning nine dual matches in the regular season including five against nationally ranked programs, the Bulldogs earned a No. 26 ranking among all NCAA Division III programs and claimed the eight spot in the ITA West Regional rankings. The Maroon and Grey went 9-9, 3-4 in SCIAC, placing 5th in the final Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings. They found success early in the season when they went on a roll beating three nationally ranked programs in a row, including then No. 18 Mary Washington (5-4), No. 25 Christopher Newport (6-3), and No. 34 Vassar College (8-1).
Redlands was led by 2nd Team All-SCIAC performer Stefan Hester (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) who landed in the regional rankings for doubles at No. 9 with partner Jack Mattox (Mercer Island, WA). The two joined together mid-way through the season and posted a 4-2 record all coming within conference.
Mattox had an impressive freshman year going 12-5 in singles, which included a 10-5 mark at No. 2 and 2-0 at No. 3. He also went 9-6 in doubles playing with three different partners. Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) was also an outstanding addition to the lineup, and he made his presence felt going 12-6, which included an 11-5 mark at No. 4. In doubles he was paired with four different partners and combined to go 7-9.
National Rankings include the Top-40 Teams, Top-50 Singles Players, and Top-25 Doubles Teams from across the United States, while Regional Rankings include Top-20 Teams, Top-25 Singles Players, and Top-15 Doubles Teams from each DIII region.
