The No. 34 University of Redlands men's tennis team challenged the No. 22 Tufts University (MA) Jumbos on Saturday morning but suffered a 4-5 loss to the non-conference foes on Verdieck Courts.  With the result, the Bulldogs end their win streak at six, with their previous defeat coming on March 5 by the same score.

Against Tufts, Redlands captured the first win of the day with an 8-0 throttling by senior Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and junior Andrew Leahy (Claremont, CA) at the No. 3 doubles spot.

However, the Jumbos responded with triumphs in the remaining two matches to enter the singles with a slight edge.

Nonetheless, Lipscomb evened the tally for the Maroon and Gray by stepping up with a 6-1, 6-3 result at the top slot in singles.  The teams went on to trade points at Nos. 3 and 5, with sophomore Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) prevailing for the Bulldogs by scores of 6-2, 6-4.

With the score knotted at three apiece, the Maroon and Gray needed to win two of the final three matches to pull out the upset.  Unfortunately, Redlands only gained one more win, as junior Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4.

Redlands (6-3) faces Pacific University (OR) on Friday, March 29, at 3 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
