Lipscomb's Newcomer of the Year Award Highlights Bulldog Men's Tennis Team's All-SCIAC Accolades

It was announced earlier today by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) that the No. 15 University of Redlands men's tennis team received four All-Conference awards, as determined by the head coaches' votes.  Freshman Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year and landed on the First Team after a stellar first season with the Bulldogs.  In addition, sophomore Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) joined Lipscomb on the First Team, while junior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) collected Second-Team honors.

While climbing the line-up into the No. 1 slot, Lipscomb put together a phenomenal rookie campaign that included a 21-3 overall record and a 7-2 mark against conference foes.   He was one game away from securing another victory but the match went unfinished during the opening round of the SCIAC Championship Tournament.  He most recently defeated the top player from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in straight sets, avenging a three-set loss to him from the week before.

Lipscomb recently qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships in singles at Kalamazoo College.

He also competed at No. 3 doubles with two different partners during conference action and recorded a 6-4 SCIAC mark.

Dulle and Ly both earn their inaugural All-SCIAC awards, as well.  After playing primarily at No. 5 last season, Dulle competed at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles slots during his sophomore campaign.  In similar fashion, Ly moved from No. 6 at the start of the season to No. 3 during the conference tournament.  He recorded a 7-3 effort against SCIAC foes, which included a pair of wins during the final regular-season weekend.

Furthermore, the dynamic duo competed as the Bulldogs' top doubles team and ran the table against SCIAC opponents, earning an 8-0 mark.  Ly also joined forces with freshman teammate Bryant Johnson (Fair Oaks, CA) on two occasions, securing hard-fought 9-7 wins over Chapman University and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

Ly and Dulle recently received the news of their qualification to the NCAA Individual Championships in doubles.

As a team, Redlands earned a 7-3 SCIAC mark to take third place in the standings.
