Despite rainy conditions throughout the area, the No. 15 University of Redlands men's tennis team squeezed in the first-round match of the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon.  After relocating the match to the Claremont Tennis Club, the Bulldogs made quick work of the Chapman University Panthers by cruising to a 5-0 victory.

Junior Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) and graduate student Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) initiated the scoring in doubles by dismissing their No. 3 counterparts, 8-1.  The top tandem of sophomore Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) and junior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) kept things rolling with an 8-3 victory, while freshmen Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Bryant Johnson (Fair Oaks, CA) completed the sweep with an 8-5 showing.

While dodging the impending rain, the Bulldogs efficiently earned the deciding points with a pair of straight-set wins.  Johnson dominated at No. 5 by scores of 6-2, 6-0, while Ly took care of business at No. 3 in a 6-2, 6-1 performance.

Redlands (17-6, 6-2 SCIAC) returns to action on Saturday, May 7, at 2 p.m. against 10th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
