The No. 19 University of Redlands men's tennis team fired off two important victories on Saturday to wrap up the dual-match portion of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) season.  First, the Bulldogs cruised to an 8-1 decision over the visiting Beavers of Caltech before capturing a 6-3 victory over the Chapman University Panthers on Verdieck Courts.

Against the Beavers, the Maroon and Gray jumped out to a 2-1 lead through the doubles competition.  The No. 2 tandem of juniors Max Licona (Los Angeles, CA) and Teddy Jones (St. Louis, MO) rattled off an 8-3 decision, while the top duo of juniors Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) edged their counterparts in a 9-7 performance.

In singles, junior Ted Burchett (Gold River, CA) put together a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5, while Lipscomb downed his No. 1 opponent by scores of 6-2, 6-1.  In addition, freshman Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) and Leahy registered straight-set wins for the Bulldogs.

During the Maroon and Gray's second match of the day, the team gained an early 3-0 lead with a hard-fought sweep in doubles.  Freshman Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and Burchett initiated the scoring with a nearly flawless 8-1 effort at No. 3.  Licona and Jones quickly followed with their 8-4 victory at No. 2, while Lipscomb and Leahy came up with an 8-6 triumph at the top slot.

In singles, Burchett and Leahy joined forces to clinch the team's overall victory against the Panthers.  Burchett prevailed over his No. 5 counterpart with a 6-2, 6-3 showing, while Leahy posted a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory at No. 4.

Lipscomb also grabbed a solid win, defeating his opponent at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
