All-Americans Casserd and Spearman End Season with Quarterfinal Loss to Amherst College at NCAA Championships

University of Redlands' men's tennis seniors Jeff Casserd (Bellevue, WA) and Cameron Spearman (Laguna Niguel, CA) ended their 2011 campaign on Saturday with a three-set loss to a duo from Amherst College (MA) in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Men's Tennis Individual Championships at the nearby Biszants Family Tennis Center and Pauley Tennis Complex in Claremont.  The duo's loss closes out an impressive and historical run as the four-year student-athletes garner All-America honors for their efforts at the NCAA Championships.

The Bulldog partners got off to a promising start by taking the first set, 6-2. The Lord Jeffs' Moritz Koeing and Wes Waterman kept the score close in the first couple of games, letting Casserd and Spearman only hold a 3-2 lead. Redlands then found its stroke and ripped off three consecutive victories to close out the first set.

UR battled close with Amherst in the beginning of the second set, trailing only 1-2 after three games.  But the Lord Jeffs pulled away en route to a 6-3 victory.

The third and final set followed in the same manner with Redlands staying close at 1-2 before Koeing and Waterman rallied for four straight wins, recording a 6-1 final score.

In other notable news, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Zhenya Pereverzin and Ronald Wu will represent the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) in the semi-finals tomorrow as they defeated a pair from Johns Hopkins University (MD) earlier today.
