WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's soccer scored five goals for a second-straight game as they took down the Whittier College Poets 5-2 on Saturday night. With the win the Bulldogs are now 6-5-2 overall and 5-4 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.

In the opening thirteen minutes the Bulldogs put two shots on-goal, one from Jamie Dulle (St. Louis, MO) and the second from Ryan Hulbert (Dixon, CA).

A few minutes later Yusef Mayet (Redondo Beach, CA) set up Joseph Parra (West Covina, CA) for the opening goal. Mayet was able to slip the ball in behind to Parra who took a touch and his shot took a deflection and went low, past the diving Poet keeper and into the side netting.

Nine minutes after taking the lead, Phillip Kostenko (Zelenokumsk, Russia) scored on a header off the assists from Quinn Richards (San Clemente, CA) and Spencer Palmer (San Diego, CA). Palmer possed a loose ball in the midfield and sprayed a perfect, driven pass with the outside of his foot to Richards on the right side. Richards then crossed the ball to Kostenko, who powered a header into the back of the net from six yards out.

Following a save in the final two seconds of the first half by Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA), the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into the half.

In the 65th minute Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV) made it 3-0 with a line-drive shot from 25 yards out. Kovach took advantage of a poor clearance from Whittier and his shot found the left side netting.

Twenty-four seconds after the Kovach goal, Lawrence was forced into a save as he kept the Poets off the board.

Then from the 80th minute through the 84th minute, the Bulldogs and Poets went back-and-forth for four goals, two for each. Jarette Alexis Barajas (San Jose, CA) got a goal back 22 seconds after Redlands conceded for the first time. Dulle picked up the assist on the goal. Barajas found the bottom corner after Dulle picked up the ball in midfield and then found Barajas on his left for the goal.

The Poets recorded their second goal just 33 seconds after the Barajas goal. Following a yellow and a pair of Redlands corners, Barajas got himself a brace in the 84th as he took advantage of a shot from Richards that deflected to his feet.

It was an even game with 14 shots for both sides, there were 11 corners, eight for the Bulldogs, and 26 total fouls, including five yellows between the sides.

Barajas had two goals on two shots. Eleven of the 14 shots for the Bulldogs were on target. Lawrence made four saves and got his fifth win of the year.

The Bulldogs will finish their regular season at Farquhar Field next Saturday, October 29 beginning at 7:00 p.m. for senior night against Chapman University.
