REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team picked up a huge non-conference win Saturday night under the lights at Farquhar Field beating UC Santa Cruz 2-1.

The Bulldogs improve to 4-4-3, 3-3-1 SCIAC and have now won two-in-a-row.

Redlands scored off an own goal in the 10th minute. A cross was put into the box and a UCSC defender attempted to clear it out in front of the goal, but instead kicked it right past the keeper into the bottom corner putting UR up 1-0.

The Bulldogs were on their heels in the 13th minute when Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) was forced into back-to-back saves, before having to defend a corner kick, which they did successfully.

Redlands ended the half with four shots, three of which were saved, Jamie Dulle (St. Louis, MO)David Johnson (Monrovia, CA), and Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV) provided the offense for the Maroon and Grey early.

Skylar Darwen (Los Angeles, CA) got the opening shot off in the second half, but it went wide. Ninety seconds later UR earned a corner kick but was unable to take advantage. Seventeen seconds after the corner did not yield a shot, the Banana Slugs countered quickly sending a long ball past the Bulldog backline finding Tyler Allred who cut in to his right beforew finishing on top of the 18.

After that the two teams combined for three shots, an offsides, and a yellow card. Then in the 64th minute the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick, which Jarette Alexis Barajas (San Jose, CA) would finish as the eventual game-winner.

In the 70th Cody Bell (Highland, CA) took a shot but a defensive save put it wide for a corner. Then in the 78th, Bell got space on the right side of the 18-yard box and fired a shot off that hit the inside of the left post and bounced just on the outside of the goal line, as he narrowly missed the Bulldogs' third goal.

Redlands attempted 14 shots with eight of them finding the target and earned themselves eight corners. Barajas' goal was his third of the season. Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) played the final 45:00 minutes and got his first collegiate win.

The Bulldogs return to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play this Wednesday, October 12 when they travel to Orange County for a 4:00pm game with Chapman University.
