LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team got back on track Wednesday night beating the University of La Verne 2-0 on the road.

With the win the Bulldogs snap their three-game losing skid improving to 3-4-3, 3-3-1 SCIAC.  They are still in the hunt for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Berth, but have more work to do as they sit in fifth place within the conference standings, a point out of 3rd-4th.

Joseph Parra (West Covina, CA) and Quinn Richards (San Clemente, CA) earned a couple early tests on Leopard keeper Logan Reese.  But he was up to the task stopping both.  UR picked up the eventual game-winning goal in the 26th minute coming off of a PK.  It all started with Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV) taking a shot that was saved.  The rebound spilled out into the path of Phillip Kostenko (Zelenokumsk, Russia) who attempted to get a touch past the keeper, but in doing so was taken out, earning a penalty kick for the Maroon and Grey.  Junior Jarette Alexis Barajas (San Jose, CA) would then step up and bury the ensuing kick putting the Bulldogs on top.

This score would hold the rest of the half despite Nico Mancilla (Pasadena, CA) and Skylar Darwen (Los Angeles, CA) getting off another two looks, one of which was saved.

Redlands came out aggressive in the second half unleashing three shots and earning three corner kicks within the first twenty minutes.  They were looking for insurance and they would get it in the 74th minute off the foot of Mancilla.  Kostenko played a through ball into the path of David Johnson (Monrovia, CA) on a counter attack.  Johnson took the touch inside and slotted a perfect pass on the ground to a streaking Mancilla for a one-touch finish into the back of the net.

But the Bulldogs weren't done there as Kostenko would get a look off on frame in the 80th minute, which was saved and to finish the game off Barajas would send a shot high that ended the big offensive night.

Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) picked up the shutout playing all 90:00 minutes posting two saves.  Redlands outshot the Leopards 11-3 for the game, which included a 6-0 advantage in the second half.  UR also held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.  Barajas finished the contest with three shots and a goal, Mancilla added two shots and the other score and Jamie Dulle (St. Louis, MO) would get off another two looks.

Redlands returns to the pitch this Saturday, October 8 under the lights at Farquhar Field for a non-conference game against UC Santa Cruz beginning at 7:00pm.
