THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team dropped their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup of 2022 Saturday night falling 1-0 to California Lutheran University, their first loss to the Kingsmen since 2017 when they fell in the SCIAC Tournament Championship Game.

The Bulldogs who were 2-0-3 across their last five games now move to 2-2-3, 2-1-1 SCIAC.

It was a lopsided matchup with the Maroon and Grey outshooting the Kingsmen 17-13, with five of those shots being on goal, while holding a 14-6 advantage on corner kicks.  But with these opportunities the Bulldogs were unable to find the back of the net.

Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) was rarely tested between the posts playing all 90:00 minutes, collecting a trio of saves against four shots on goal.

After a scoreless first half that saw a combined 12 shots, CLU was able to break the deadlock seven minutes into the second period when Cesar Sagastume finished off a feed from Christian Gonzalez.

UR looked to add the equalizer the rest of the half pouring on the offense with another ten shots with three coming from Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV), two from Jamie Dulle (St. Louis, MO), and other support from David Johnson (Monrovia, CA), Nico Mancilla (Pasadena, CA), Cody Bell (Highland, CA), and Phillip Kostenko (Zelenokumsk, Russia).  From these looks only two made it on frame as CLU keeper Davis Sharts would turn them away preserving the shutout.

Redlands returns home to Farquhar Field on Wednesday, September 28 when they host Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 7:00pm.
