Arian Mogharei named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week

SCIAC Men's Soccer Weekly Release (No. 8)

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Athletes of the Week in the eighth week of voting.  University of Redlands graduate student, captain, and defender Arian Mogharei (Hayward, CA) was recognized as the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.

This is Mogharei's first selection this year and is the third Bulldog to win SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week recognition joining Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) and Matt Beasley (Las Vegas, NV).

Mogharei led the defensive efforts for the University of Redlands, who posted league wins over Occidental College (2-1) and Caltech (4-1). The center back anchored the Bulldogs' backline, which allowed just 10 shots for the week, five of which were shots on goal. In the win over the Tigers, Mogharei provided an assist on the game-winner in the 41st minute and scored the game's first tally in the win over the Beavers in the 18th minute.

The Maroon and Grey defensive unit has allowed just 169 shots on the season, holding opponents to a .101 shot percentage and a 1.19 goals-against average.

Arian has now totaled four goals and three assists on the season.  He now looks forward to a home match-up with Pomona-Pitzer, Wednesday, October 27 beginning at 7:00pm.
