The University of Redlands men's soccer team traveled to Whittier College on Saturday morning to face the Poets in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up. The Bulldogs found an early rhythm that seemed to click through the whole game en route to a big, 3-0, conference shutout.

Redlands got off to a hot start, as senior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) took the first shot of the game and forced the Whittier goalkeeper to make the save. Senior forward Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA) followed suit by blasting a shot three minutes later. In the 13th minute, Boone's second attempt on goal was successful, giving the Maroon and Gray an early 1-0 advantage.

Although freshman midfielder Derrin Valeri (Atlanta, GA) and senior midfielder Anthony Royer (La Crescenta, CA) provided quality looks in the Bulldogs' offensive third, the score remained at 1-0 entering halftime.

Despite the Poets' burst of scoring chances at the start of the second stanza, Redlands persisted and quickly regained possession. On the counter-attack, Boone worked the ball down the right side towards the Whittier goal. At the top corner of the box, Boone crossed the ball to the middle to a wide-open, junior forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA), who fired it past the Poet goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead with 24 minutes to go in the second half.

The Maroon and Gray offense continued to press in an effort to extend its lead even further by earning a shot and a corner kick in the latter half of the second stanza.

With 37 seconds left in the game, on a near identical play, Boone found Parsa for the third and final goal of the game and the Bulldog victory.

Thanks to the stingy defensive performance by senior Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA), junior Joey Kenney (Portland, OR), and sophomores Dylan Carlyle (San Jose, CA) and Matias Lazo-Fanning (Seattle, WA), senior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) only had to make one save to secure the shutout victory.

Redlands (6-3, 6-0 SCIAC) looks forward to returning to Farquhar Field on Wednesday, September 27, to face Chapman University in a conference showdown. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
