Freshman defender Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) scored with seven seconds remaining in the second overtime on Saturday afternoon to lift the University of Redlands men's soccer team to a 1-0 triumph over Occidental College.  With the win, it marked the Bulldogs' fifth 1-0 victory during the 2013 campaign.

In a fairly quiet first 45 minutes in Eagle Rock, Redlands' best chance came when senior forward Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR) hit a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and away from goal.  At the break, the Bulldogs held the slight advantage in shots, 4-3, and corner kicks, 2-1.

U of R freshman forward Matt Speegle (Castro, CA) came close in the second half to giving the Maroon and Gray the lead, but his header was saved by the Tigers' goalkeeper, Tristan Cooper.  Bulldog senior midfielder Will Walker (Folsom, CA) also had a good opportunity late in regulation, but his shot from six yards out missed wide left.

Still scoreless at the end of 90 minutes, the two sides headed to overtime.  After neither team found the finishing touch in the first extra period, Redlands finally found the breakthrough in the second overtime.

While pushing forward and trying to find the game winner with 20 seconds remaining, Redlands earned a throw-in deep in Occidental's half.  After a nice combination play in the corner, the ball was whipped into the box, and after a deflection, the ball came in the air to Elsea.  With the clock winding down, Elsea volleyed a right-footed shot into the back of the net for the dramatic golden-goal with just seven ticks left on the clock.  For Elsea, it was his second game-winning score of the season.

On the afternoon, Redlands was narrowly edged in shots by Occidental, 14-15, while both sides racked up seven corner kicks.  Junior forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) led the way offensively for the U of R, tallying four shots, while junior midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) and freshman midfielder Isaac Bogart (Lynden, WA) each provided the Bulldogs with two shots.

In addition, U of R freshman goalkeeper Dylan Ochoa (Culver City, CA) registered two saves in his second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win of the season.

Redlands (9-3-0, 9-3-0 SCIAC) returns to the pitch on Monday evening when it travels to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (9-5-1, 8-3-1 SCIAC) for a crucial SCIAC showdown.  Kickoff in Claremont is scheduled for 7 p.m.
