Andreas Silva registered his third shutout of the 2013 campaign.

The University of Redlands men's soccer team scored one goal on Wednesday afternoon, and that was all it would need as the Bulldogs defeated Caltech in Pasadena, 1-0.  Senior forward Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR) scored the game-winner for the Maroon and Gray, making it his second goal in as many games.

Redlands began the match with two corner kicks inside the first two minutes of the game, but was unable to convert either.  The Bulldogs eventually got on the board when Keny-Guyer followed up his own shot that was saved, and buried his second opportunity into the back of the net.

The Bulldogs continued to press for the remainder of the first stanza, utilizing their bench while looking to double the lead.  Unable to score another before halftime, Redlands had outshot the Beavers, 13-2, during the first 45 minutes, while also racking up seven corner kicks to just two for Caltech.

The Maroon and Gray pressed the issue again in the second stanza, looking to extend its advantage.  The Caltech defense and goalkeeper held strong, however, as the Bulldogs would not find the back of the net again.  Beaver goalkeeper John David Feist registered nine saves on the afternoon.

For the game, the U of R outshot Caltech, 27-4, and edged the Beavers in corner kicks, 13-2.

Leading the way offensively for the Bulldogs was sophomore forward AJ VanderStaay (Bellingham, WA) with five shots, while Keny-Guyer provided four.

Bulldog senior goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) recorded his third shutout of the 2013 campaign, with all shutouts coming in 1-0 triumphs.  He tallied three saves in the win.

Redlands (6-2-0, 6-2-0 SCIAC) takes a break from Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action for the remainder of the week before returning to the field next Wednesday when it hosts Whittier College.  Kickoff at Farquhar Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
