On Wednesday evening, the University of Redlands men's soccer team earned its sixth-consecutive win, topping Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in overtime, 1-0.  Sophomore forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) won it for the Bulldogs when he scored his team-leading seventh goal of the campaign in the second minute of overtime.

The victory moves Redlands back into first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings, just one point ahead of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.  The Bulldogs have three conference matches remaining, while the Sagehens have four.

In the first half of Wednesday's game, neither team put together too many great scoring chances, but by the halftime break, CMS had out-shot the U of R, 5-3.  The Bulldogs however did hold the corner-kick advantage over the Stags during the first 45 minutes, 3-1.

The second stanza saw the Maroon and Gray come close to scoring the game-winner, when with less than five minutes to play in regulation, a header off of a corner-kick narrowly missed the top-left corner of the net. 

Still tied at the end of regulation, the two teams headed to a golden goal overtime period.  Just two minutes into the first overtime, freshman forward AJ VanderStaay (Bellingham, WA) was fouled inside of the Stags' 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty-kick opportunity for the Bulldogs.  Izydorek stepped up to the spot confidently and buried the shot into the back of the net to win the game for Redlands.

Wednesday night's match marked the fifth time during the 2012 season that the Maroon and Gray played past the allotted 90 minutes in regulation.  It was also the first time Redlands came out on the winning end of an overtime game during the campaign.

While being out-shot by CMS, 14-7, the Bulldogs played impressive defensively as a team and only allowed two of the Stags' shots to go on frame.  Redlands junior goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) earned the win on the night and tallied his third-straight shutout in the process.

The Maroon and Gray (10-4-3, 9-2-2) returns home on Saturday afternoon to take on the University of La Verne.  The match at Farquhar Field is scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m.
