Led by sophomore forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA), the University of Redlands men's soccer program notched its fifth win of the 2012 campaign, beating the Beavers of Caltech, 8-0.  The win marks the first road-victory for the Maroon and Gray this season.

Junior defender Richie Marquez (Pomona, CA) got things rolling for the Bulldogs when he scored less than three minutes into the contest.  On the goal, sophomore midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) whipped in a beautiful corner-kick to Marquez who buried it in the back of the net with a powerful header.

Kustura acted as the provider again, 10 minutes later, when he hit another corner-kick into the middle of the 18-yard box where he found Izydorek who rose above the defense and smacked in a header of his own.

Senior midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA) and freshman midfielder Gustavo Orozco (San Rafael, CA) connected to find Izydorek for his second of the match in the 28th minute.  After seeing the ball bounce past a Beaver defender, Izydorek reached around the defender and hit the ball on a half-volley into the far side-netting.

Redlands took a four-goal lead when Ramirez crossed the ball into Orozco who was there to head the ball past the Caltech goalkeeper.  The goal was Orozco's first in a Bulldog uniform.

In the 39th minute, junior midfielder Jensen Brehm (Bellevue, WA) combined with sophomore midfielder Grahame Fitz (Menlo Park, CA) to find Ramirez 12 yards out where he scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year.

Up 5-0 at the break, the Bulldogs continued to apply pressure on the Caltech goal at the start of the second half.  On a dynamic counter-attack, senior forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) found freshman midfielder Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA) open in the middle where he finished to the bottom left corner.

The Maroon and Gray tacked on two more goals during the final 10 minutes of the contest, the first coming from Brehm.  On the goal, Orozco found Brehm with a nicely lifted cross, and Brehm made no mistake, volleying it home.  Senior forward Noah Prudhomme (San Anselmo, CA) tallied the Bulldogs' eighth score of the day when reacted first to a loose ball in the box and banged it in.

For the match, Redlands outshot Caltech 24-5.

Three goalkeepers saw action for the Maroon and Gray in the match.  Junior Andreas Silva (San Jose) went the first 45 minutes and notched one save.  Senior Spencer Dellhime (Highland, CA) went the next 32 minutes before senior Nick Zortea (Simi Valley, CA) finished out the final 12 minutes for the Bulldogs while recording one save.

Redlands (5-4-3, 4-2-2) competes in another crucial SCIAC bout on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. against the Tigers of Occidental University.
