Redlands Men's Soccer Edges Caltech, 1-0

Redlands Men's Soccer Edges Caltech, 1-0

Despite out-shooting Caltech, 33-3, the University of Redlands men's soccer program needed until the 82nd minute to find the back of the net and secure the 1-0 victory over the visiting Beavers.  The win helps the Bulldogs to keep pace with rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, which also remains perfect in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition.

After pounding the Caltech goal for 81 minutes, Redlands finally broke through when junior midfielder Will Walker (Folsom, CA) headed home a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV).  On a nicely lifted ball into the box, senior forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) flicked it straight to Walker, who made no mistake and buried the game-winner.

Senior midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA) and sophomore forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) led the Redlands attack with five shots apiece.

Caltech senior goalkeeper Wesley Swank (Charlottesville, VA) stifled the Bulldog attack on numerous instances.  He kept the score leveled late in the game by making a full-stretch diving save on a shot by Bulldog freshman midfielder Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA).

While not tested much in goal for Redlands, junior goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) made a key save when called upon to secure the shutout.

The University of Redlands (2-1-0) plays host to No. 1 Trinity University (TX) on Friday night at Farquhar Field.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
