Bulldog Men’s Soccer Battles CMS Stags to 1-1 Tie

The University of Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges men's soccer teams fought hard for 110 minutes and settled for a one-all tie in a classic Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match on Saturday at Farquhar Field.

The Stags put pressure on the Maroon and Gray early in the ball game, as sophomore forward David Taylor (Brookline, WA) posted a goal at the seven-minute mark.

Redlands countered moments later as junior defender Sean Cruz (The Woodlands, TX) launched a long through-ball to sophomore midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA), who struck a 20-yarder into the top, far corner of the CMS net.

Neither team could capitalize on their scoring chances for the remainder of regulation, sending the game to back-to-back overtime periods. With both teams applying pressure while successfully defending its goals, the final decision came in the form of a tie.

The Stags put up 24 shots, while the Bulldogs struck 16.

Freshman Bulldog goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) recorded a career- and season-high of nine saves in the long-stretched match.

Redlands (4-0-1, 3-0-1 SCIAC) resumes action on Wednesday at Cal Lutheran University with a 4 p.m. kickoff against the Kingsmen.
