
Sophomore Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) provided three goals in the
University of Redlands men’s soccer team’s 9-0 rout of
Caltech on Saturday afternoon in Redlands.
His first goal came in the 12th minute followed by scores in the
51st and 57th minute, respectively. Carlson’s hat-trick
effort proved to be the first of his playing career.
Senior midfielder Will Kelly (Seattle, WA) also provided fireworks,
recording two goals and one assist. Kelly now shares the team's
lead in points with Carlson, boasting 17 on the season.
Prior to the end of the first half, freshman forward Alex Laughton
(Pleasanton, CA) and sophomore forward Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA)
extended the Bulldogs’ lead, giving the Maroon and Gray a
commanding 5-0 advantage heading into the break.
Two freshmen, midfielder Nick Eary (Las Vegas, NV) and defender
Noah Prudhomme (Oakland, CA), each found the back of the net in the
second half to spell out the match’s final tally.
Senior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA), sophomore goalkeeper
Charles Pratt IV (Phoenix, AZ) and sophomore goalkeeper Jason
Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) all saw action in between the pipes
and held the Beavers scoreless.
The Bulldogs owned the upper hand in nearly every statistical
category, outpacing Caltech in shots, 40-7, and corner kicks,
8-2.
Hobson earned the win in goal for the Maroon and Gray while Marcus
Lucas sustained the defeat for Caltech, stopping a game-high 14
shots.
Caltech (0-14, 0-10 SCIAC) travels to La Verne on Wednesday for a 4
p.m. contest against the University of La Verne.
Redlands (7-6-2, 6-3-1 SCIAC) holds down the second-place spot in
the conference with the victory and takes to the pitch next on
Wednesday, facing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at home. Game
time is set for 7 p.m.
