No. 23 Redlands Men’s Soccer Draws With Cal Lutheran University

In front of a Senior Night crowd 275 strong, the No. 23 University of Redlands men’s soccer team tied Cal Lutheran University 3-3.

Prior to the match, the team honored its seniors at center pitch as senior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR), senior midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak Harbor, WA), senior forward Alex Parker (Chula Vista, CA), senior midfielder Steve Chenes (Las Vegas, NV) and senior defender Sean Conway (Van Nuys, CA) were escorted by their parents.

The first goal of the match came off of a ball deflected off of Cal Lutheran’s Alex Tragos, giving Redlands an early 1-0 lead.

Before the end of the half, Schunk scored from the top of the box to give the Bulldogs a comfortable 2-0 advantage heading into the intermission.

Matt Fernandez and Ryan McDermott each scored a goal within four minutes of each other in the second half, tying the game at two apiece.

Schunk netted his second goal of the night off of a pass from junior midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA), and the maroon and gray took the lead, 3-2.

In the waning minutes of the match, Victor Perez scored off of a McDermott feed to equalize the game.

During the second overtime period, both Schunk and Parker had prime chances to score but were unable to finish.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) saved two shots and allowed three goals. Zubach manned the net for the Kingsmen and tallied five saves on eight shots on goal.

Redlands (13-4-2, 11-0-2 SCIAC) finishes its regular season slate in Claremont on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m when the Bulldogs take on the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
