Freshman midfielder Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) swung the final
blow at No. 23 Principia College (IL) en route to a 6-1 win for the
University of Redlands men’s soccer team.
Carlson dribbled down the left side of the field in the waning 10
seconds of the match, and after weaving through defenders, he let
off a shot in the final second, capping off the Bulldogs’
offensive onslaught.
Senior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR) accounted for two of the
six Bulldog goals while senior midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak
Harbor, WA) provided the assist on each occasion.
Opening scoring for Redlands was senior midfielder Steve Chenes
(Las Vegas, NV), which marked his first successful scoring
opportunity of the season.
Junior defender Jeff Willey (Medina, WA) connected for the second
goal while freshman defender Danny Day (Beaverton, OR) tallied the
assist on the play.
Eight minutes passed in the second half before the Bulldogs added
another goal to their total. Junior midfielder Will Kelly (Seattle,
WA) took a pass from senior forward Alex Parker (Chula Vista, CA)
and found the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
Principia’s Spencer Brown scored the lone Panther goal of the
game with a shot that went to the top right-hand corner of the
goal.
Junior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) played the entirety
of the game between the posts for the Bulldogs, amassing two saves
on three shots on goal.
Panther keeper Samuel Thomas faced a bevy of shots, saving five
shots out of 11 on goal.
Redlands finishes up its two-game home stand this weekend with a
