POMONA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team took third at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 2 at Mountain Meadows Golf Club over the weekend.

The Bulldogs were in a tie for third after round one on Saturday and improved their score from 290 down to a 285 across the final 18 holes but fell one stroke behind Golfstat's No. 6 team in the country Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) for second place. The tournament winner was Pomona-Pitzer who shot a 566, nine strokes better than Redlands. The Bulldogs, though, did beat out No. 35 University of La Verne and No. 24 California Lutheran University.

After round one Saturday the Bulldogs trailed the leaders Pomona-Pitzer by nine strokes, CMS by three, and were tied with Occidental at 290. Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR) led all Bulldogs with a 69, tying him for 25th on the single-round top performers list. Also helping Redlands stay afloat was Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) who had gotten off to a slow start this spring, but started off SCIAC No. 2 with a 72.

Round two was kinder to all the golfers, especially the Bulldogs as they tied Pomona-Pitzer for the second lowest round total with a 285, one behind La Verne who shot a 284.

Buck went from a tie for second to third as he shot a very respectable 70 in his second and final round to give him a two-round total of 139. He finished only one stroke back of second place and two behind the event winner, both of which needed sub-70s in the second round to move up.

Joining Buck in the top-five was Spencer Leader (Oakland, CA) who shot a 141 which included a second round 67, tied for the second lowest individual round during the tournament. The 67 matches his score from the Bulldog Invite last fall as he sits in a tie for 11th and 14th in the top performances list.

The second biggest mover on the day was Joshua Fambro (Taos, N.M.) who moved up 13 spots into a tie for 12th following a 70 in round two. He finished his tournament with a 145. The last two Bulldogs to score was Yim in a tie for 29th (72-81) and Zane Mularski (Spokane, WA) who tied for 31st (76-78).

Redlands wraps up the regular season at the SCIAC Championships hosted by CLU on April 23-25 at Olivas Links Golf Club in Ventura as the Bulldogs will hope to get an automatic qualifying spot into the NCAA Division III National Championships by winning the SCIAC Title.
