U of R Men's Golf comes back to finish in a tie for second at San Antonio Shootout

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team was able to storm back on the final round of the San Antonio Shootout Sunday to finish in a tie for 2nd shooting a 302 across the final 18 holes. 

The Bulldogs sat in third place entering the final round and was nine strokes behind host Schreiner University.  Redlands was able to make up the ground shooting +14 as a team as they went 304-298-302 (904).  The winner was Southwestern University who shot a 287-300-300 (887).      

The 302 shot by the U of R was then second best behind the tournament winners, Southwestern University. Overall, the Bulldogs shot a 600 for rounds two and three, the same total as Southwestern, and nine strokes better than Schreiner and Concordia University Texas who finished fourth.

On the individual side the Bulldogs made a comeback thanks to Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR)Zane Mularski (Spokane, WA), and Spencer Leader (Oakland, CA) who came in tied for sixth, eighth, and a tie for ninth. Redlands is the only school that had three top-10 finishers.

Leader was the biggest mover on the day, improving his positioning by 18 spots thanks to a 71 third round score. That 71 was the second lowest score of the round, sitting only one stroke behind the event winner from Southwestern.  Buck finished the two-day event with a 73-72-77, Mularski was at a 77-71-76 and Leader posted an 80-75-71. 

The other three Bulldogs who competed included Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) who finished in a tie for 29th after shooting a 74-81-80.  Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) moved six spot on the final day to finish in a tie for 38th with an 84-80-78.  He finished tied with teammate Mario Dino (Denver, CO) who posted a 79-83-80.     

The Bulldogs will get two weeks off before returning to competition on Thursday-Saturday, March 9-11 at the Winona State Warrior Invitational hosted at Legacy Golf Club in Las Vegas, NV.
