No. 7 Redlands Men's Golf takes fifth at SCIAC No. 1

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play over the weekend placing fifth overall at SCIAC No. 1, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer at El Dorado Golf Club. 

The Bulldogs entered the weekend ranked No. 7 in the Mizuno/Bushnell Division III National Polls and was selected to finish in a tie atop the conference standings in the SCIAC Preseason Polls.  The Maroon and Grey got off to a slow start in the first round with a 303, 14 strokes behind the leader and No. 18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS).  But they still were within five strokes of third place No. 24 California Lutheran University (CLU). During day two action on Sunday, seven of the eight teams struggled, except for CMS who won the tournament by 18 strokes, as the Bulldogs posted a 304, which was tied for the third lowest.  With this mark they were unable to improve their positioning, finishing a stroke back of the Kingsmen for fourth place and three behind the University of La Verne in third. 

Zane Mularski (Spokane, WA) was the Bulldogs' top finisher coming in a tie for 10th with a two-day total of 149 (74-75). Mularski finished only four strokes out of third and six behind the runner-up.

Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR)Joshua Fambro (Taos, N.M.), and Spencer Leader (Oakland, CA) finished inside the Top-20.  Buck was consistent over the two days with a pair of 76's that put him in a tie for 15th and Fambro and Leader finished tied in 18th with a 75-79 and 78-76, respectively. 

Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) was the last Bulldog to score going 82-77, which put him in a tie for 28th.   

The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround with a two-day tournament in San Antonio, Texas on February 20-21 as they compete in the San Antonio Shootout (TPC San Antonio).
