No. 16 Bulldog Men's Golf Takes 11th Amongst Competitive Field at CSUSB Coyote Classic

The University of Redlands men's golf team competed in the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside on Monday and Tuesday. Amongst a highly competitive field that included Division II and III schools, the Bulldog men's golf team took 11th place with a three-round total of 913 (302, 301, 310).

Sophomore Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) led the Maroon and Gray with a tied-for-sixth finish. Despite shooting a 75 over the first 18 holes, Sharp regrouped to shave six strokes off to shoot a 69 during round two. He ended round three with a 77, shooting a 221 total. Sharp impressed shooting a minus-five on par fives, averaging a 4.58. He also tallied 29 pars, eight birdies, and two eagles.

First-year Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) followed in tied-for-21st place. He stayed consistent over the 54 holes shooting a 76, 75, and 74 for a 225 total. Fambro also impressed on par fives, shooting four-under for a 4.67 average. He led the team and placed fifth amongst the competition with 12 birdies.

Seniors Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA), Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH), and Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) rounded out the Redland golfers with scores of 232 (73, 79, 80), 236 (78, 78, 80), and 241 (83, 79, 79), respectively. Cooper tied-for-44th while Hollander tied-for-52nd, and Merchant finished in tied-for-60th.

Hollander shot one-under on par fives while also tallying seven birdies.

Competing as an independent and also tying-for-52nd, senior Diego Cortes (Santiago, Chile) shot a 236 over three rounds. Cortes recorded 28 birdies while Cooper racked up 31.

Redlands men's golf looks forward to hosting the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tournament at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, CA on Saturday, February 29, and Sunday, March 1.
