Junior Cade Lawson Selected To Represent Redlands at the 2018 NCAA DIII Men's Golf Championships

Earlier today, the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee announced the 33 teams and six individuals that will participate in the 2018 NCAA Championships on May 15-18.  Among the qualifiers, junior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) of the University of Redlands was selected as one of six individuals who will play in this year's tournament, which takes place at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Lawson came out of the gates firing in the opening tournament of the fall portion of the 2017-18 season. He paced the Maroon and Gray at the Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invitational with an impressive score of 214 over the three rounds. After beginning the event with a 79, he settled into a nice rhythm that allowed him to fire off scores of 68 and a season-low 67 to finish third out of 56 competitors.

A few months later, in the spring half of the season, Lawson was named Redlands' only Men's Golf Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week for his tied-for-second place finish at the West Cup. After shooting a 75 in the first round, he improved on the next 18 holes with a 73 and then closed out the event with a dazzling 69 for a tournament-low score. Overall, he led the field with 11 birdies over the three rounds.

Over the course of the season, Lawson shot an impressive 74.29 average over 25 rounds. He also shot the lowest round of his team in six out of the nine tournaments they played in.
