No. 26 U of R Men's Golf Slips into Tie for Second after 36 Holes at SCIAC Championship Tournament

The No. 26 University of Redlands men's golf team competed in the second of three rounds of the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills on Monday.  While shooting a 299 for a two-day total of 594, the Bulldogs now sit in a tie for second in the team standings with one round to go.

By combining the scores of the six completed rounds in conference action, the Maroon and Gray remains in third place in the overall standings with a tally of 1,798, which is 20 strokes behind the leaders from the University of La Verne.  Redlands trails second-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by 16 strokes.

During Monday's 18 holes, sophomore Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) continued to lead the Bulldogs with his score of 74 for a 36-hole tally of 147 to tie for second with one round remaining.  He sits among the best in the field in par-three scoring with an even score of 3.00.  So far, he has notched four birdies and 25 pars at the tournament.

Freshman Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) shot a 76 for a two-day total of 149 to tie for 10th.  He has recorded eight birdies so far in the tournament.

Sophomores Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) and Rowan Foxley (Arlington, WA) mirrored each other by swapping scores from the first round to tie for 17th with a total of 152.  Lawson also has four birdies thus far, while Foxley has recorded 24 pars in the first two days of action.

While amassing 21 pars over two rounds, junior George Galanis (Glencoe, IL) entered the clubhouse after posting a 78 to tie for 23rd

Freshman Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) completes the Bulldog lineup with a 36-hole score of 159, which came after shaving off nine strokes from his opening round for a 75 on Monday.

Redlands returns to the links on Tuesday, April 25, at Los Serranos for the final round, which will determine the SCIAC Champion.
