Bulldog Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at NCAA Championships

The University of Redlands men's golf team completed the 2014-15 season by taking fifth place at the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensbro, NC, as the highest finisher of the three Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools. The Bulldogs ended up 13 strokes behind the winners from Methodist College (NC) after shooting a 303 during Friday's final round for a four-day score of 1,186.

Senior Anthony Estes (San Pedro, CA) finished as Redlands' top golfer by capping off his championship total of 290 with a day-four stroke count of 73. During the final round, he sank three birdies and 11 pars to tie for eighth in the individual standings. Estes proved to be extremely poised and consistent throughout the event, completing each round either even or one-over par. Overall, he registered 46 pars and 12 birdies for a solid showing.

After notching a 72-hole score of 296, junior John McCord (Oakland, CA) tied for 21st with senior Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) and three others. On the final day, McCord shot one of his best rounds of the tournament, which was aided by back-to-back birdies on the opening holes. He successfully holed one more birdie to go along with 10 pars on the day. For the week, he had 44 pars and 10 birdies.

Holden battled through a tough final round that resulted in a 79 that included 13 pars on the day. In addition to tying for 21st, the talented golfer tallied 46 pars and 10 birdies during the tournament.

Junior Ryan Turner (Ventura, CA) shot his second-lowest score on day four with a stroke count of 77 to equal a 72-hole tally of 307. On the final day, Turner notched three birdies and nine pars.

In addition, freshman Jake Ryan (Portland, OR) supplied a fourth-round score of 81, which included nine pars and one birdie. Overall, he tied for 76th with a score of 323.

Redlands wraps up the 2014-15 season after capturing the program's first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title since 2006 and making its fifth-consecutive NCAA appearance.
