Redlands Men's Golf Sits in Second Place after Day One of NCAA Division III Championships

After day one of the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships, the top-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team is sitting in great position with an opening-round score of 285, just one stroke behind the leaders from Methodist University (NC). These teams are the only ones to enter the clubhouse under par at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC.

After shooting a four-under score of 68, senior Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) leads the Bulldogs as the third-place golfer in the individual standings. Through the first 18 holes, Holden ranks first in the field of competition on par-four holes, as he currently averages a stroke count of 3.6. He also is tied for second with five birdies, three of which came on the front nine.

Junior Ryan Turner (Ventura, CA) signed his scorecard with an even tally of 72, landing him tied for 15th place after today's round. Turner notched 16 pars on the day, proving his consistency throughout the challenging West Course. Senior Anthony Estes (San Pedro, CA) matched Turner's even score of 72, as he also is tied for 15th place with his teammate. After an inconsistent front nine, Estes turned around his play to shoot one under on the back-nine.

Junior John McCord (Oakland, CA) remains in the hunt, as he sits one-over with a day-one score of 73. McCord notched some quality holes on Tuesday, including three birdies and 12 pars to keep him in the top 30 of the individual standings.

As a team, Redlands found its groove on par-four holes, tying for the lead in the field with a 4.10 stroke average.

The Bulldogs return to action for round two at the Grandover Resort on Wednesday, playing the East Course with their first tee time taking place at 8:25 a.m. ET.
