McCord's Third-Place Finish Leads No. 10 Bulldog Men's Golf to Solid Showing at Sonoma State Invitational

The 10th-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team kicked off the 2014-15 campaign at the Sonoma State Invitational in Rohnert Park on Monday, October 13, and Tuesday, October 14. With a field of competitors ranging from the NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA levels, the Bulldogs placed fourth by climbing up from fifth with a solid performance during the final 18 holes, resulting in a three-round score of 898 (300-302-296).

Headlining the season debut for the Bulldogs, junior John McCord (Oakland, CA) took home the bronze by signing his scorecard with a 54-hole total of 216 (73-72-71) for even par at the tournament. He completed the event with 13 birdies while leading the field in par-five scoring with a score of 4.5 for minus six.

Senior Anthony Estes (San Pedro, CA) opened his final campaign at Redlands with a 15th-place finish, as he tallied consistent rounds of 74, 74, and 76 for eight over. He notched 36 pars out of 54 holes while scoring minus three on the par-fives.

In his first collegiate competition since winning the NCAA Division III Individual Championship, senior Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) placed 23rd with scores of 76, 76, and 75 for a three-round total of 227. In addition, Holden posted nine birdies during the tournament.

Freshmen Jake Ryan (Portland, OR) and George Galanis (Glencoe, IL) began their collegiate careers by boasting totals of 231 (74-80-74) and 255 (85-84-86), respectively.

The Bulldogs continue the fall portion of the 2014-15 season at the Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic on Monday, November 3, and Tuesday, November 4.
