The No. 10 University of Redlands men's golf team placed third overall at the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Co-Ed Invitational, which was held on Monday and Tuesday at Empire Lakes Golf Course. The Bulldogs recorded a 54-hole total of 872, finishing 32 strokes ahead of NAIA opponent Cal State San Marcos. Overall, the team led the event in par-five scoring (-12) and eagles (3).

The Redlands women's program also competed at the event, taking third in the two-day event.

Sophomore Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, CA) picked up right where he left off during his All-America rookie campaign, leading the squad with his fourth-place finish with his three-round total of 215 (73, 69, 73).   In addition to dropping in 11 overall birdies, he took advantage of the par fives by shooting a tournament-best seven under.

In their collegiate debut, freshmen Anthony Estes (San Pedro, CA), Perry Johnson (Lake Forest, IL) and Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) placed as the Bulldogs' Nos. 2-4 scorers, respectively.

Estes (76, 68, 72) slotted in just behind Sanders, trailing by just one stroke. He played extremely well in his first tournament with Redlands, ranking second in the field for par-five scoring (-5) and third with 37 pars.  In addition, Estes shot a team-leading low of 68 in the second round.

With consistent play, Johnson recorded rounds of 73, 72 and 78 en route to finishing third for the U of R.

Highlighted by 35 pars, Holden came in fourth for the Maroon and Gray, signing his scorecard with a 224 (73, 73, 78).

The veteran of the group, senior Scott Peña (Encinitas, CA), wrapped up the Bulldog scorers in his first event after a one-year absence. He tied for the team-lead with 11 birdies while posting a mark of 228 (75, 80, 73).

Redlands next swings the sticks in November as it competes at the Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic at The Golf Club of California on Nov. 7-8.
