SCIAC Tournament Preview: No. 3 University of Redlands at No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (18-7, 12-4) finished third in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)  standings and earned the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament and will travel to Claremont, CA to face the No. 2 seeded Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) (21-3, 13-3), tonight, Friday, February 24 with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m.

Head Coach Eric Bridgeland has now led the Bulldogs into the SCIAC Tournament in his first two post-COVID seasons.

The earliest in a coaching tenure a Bulldog coach has reached at least 18 wins was Lee Fulmer who won 24 and went 24-3 in his fifth season in 1959-60. This season is also only the 11th season Redlands has reached the 18-win mark.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the other semi-final, which is No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 4 Cal Lutheran.  The Championships is set for Saturday, February 25 beginning at 7:00pm.

Previous Meetings

The Bulldogs and Stags will faceoff for the third time this season with CMS winning the first two meetings, 81-78 (Box Score | Recap) and 79-64 (Box Score | Recap). The Bulldogs went 1-2 last season which included a postseason loss on the road in the quarterfinals.

In the first game at home, the Bulldogs led by as many as 11 late in the first half before the Stags rallied late to squeeze out the three-point win in Currier Gym.

The second game on the road in Claremont, CA, Redlands only led once and it was by two in the first minute of the game as CMS held Redlands to their lowest shooting percentage (35.8 percent) in a SCIAC game this season.
