U of R Men's Basketball rolls to 36-point win over Husson

REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team picked up a lopsided victory inside Currier Gym Thursday night beating Husson University 101-65. 

With the win the Bulldogs improve to 7-3, 1-0 SCIAC, have now hit the 100-point plateau twice now on the season and completed their non-conference portion of the schedule.

"We were exhausted physically and mentally prior to the break," explained Head Coach Eric Bridgeland.  "Our guys came back rested and ready to go and that showed tonight.  We are excited for the conference race."

The U of R had four players in double figures and twelve recording at least one point.  Chozen Amadi (Dallas, TX) led the Maroon and Grey with a game high 18-points on 7-of-13 shooting, which included a trio of triples.  Cal Hansen (Burien, WA) had a breakout game with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with six boards and four assists, Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA) poured in 13 points going 5-of-6 from the floor, while going 3-of-4 from deep and Nathaniel Johnson (Seattle, WA) in just 12 minutes chipped in with 10 points to go with five rebounds and two steals.        

The Bulldogs got off to a great start in the opening two minutes leading by seven following four points for Johnson and another three from Amadi.    

The Eagles would make a comeback and got with two, 7-5, but the Bulldogs quickly responded with 15 of the next 18 points, which carried down to the 12:45 mark, pushing their largest margin to 14, 22-8. 

Redlands led by double digits the remainder of the half and got in front by as many as 24 as they took a 51-28 lead into the intermission. 

In the opening minute of the second half Johnson got the offense going with a jumper and a free throw, while Sam Abere (Jacksonville, FL) would add a three off an Amadi assist as Redlands doubled up HU, 56-28.

At the 10:39 mark Power converted on a three, off a feed from Hansen and UR took their first 30-point lead of the game, 76-46.

The Bulldogs maintained control of the game the rest of the way as their bench continued the energy their starters had to begin the game. Leading the way with eight points, two triples and three rebounds in nine minutes off the bench was Elo Oti (Los Angeles, CA)

Himel provided a spark in 15 minutes of action with nine points and five rebounds and Cameron Brown (Bakersfield, CA) and Gunner Wooden (Canton, MI) combined for 14 points, seven assists and three steals.  

The Bulldogs shot 45.9% from the field, 35.1% from three-point territory and 55.6% from the free throw line.  They hauled in 53 rebounds, shared the ball with 25 assists, forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 29 points, added 24 second chance points and put up 50 points inside the paint and another 18 fastbreak points.  

Redlands returns to conference play on Saturday, December 31 at 4:00pm when they travel to take on the University of La Verne.
