Nathaniel Johnson named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week

SCIAC Men's Basketball Weekly Release No. 1

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Men's Basketball Athletes of the Week in the first week of voting and University of Redlands sophomore forward Nathaniel Johnson (Seattle, CA) was selected as the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.

Nathaniel, a transfer from Bellevue College made his presence felt for the University of Redlands Men's Basketball team this past week as they went 1-1, narrowing missing out on an upset win over No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor before edging UC Santa Cruz 83-76.  Johnson averaged 11.0 points per game, shooting 60% from the field along with 14 rebounds, eleven of which were on the defensive end.  He also had an assist and five steals over the two games.  Against the Cru he had seven points, seven rebounds, an assist and three steals and then against the Banana Slugs put up 15 points, another seven rebounds and two steals.

Redlands returns to the court this Saturday, November 19 for another non-conference game inside Currier Gym when they host St. Thomas (TX) beginning at 7:00pm.
