Romeo Mays named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Men's Basketball Athletes of the Week in the tenth week of voting and University of Redlands graduate forward Romeo Mays (Vallejo, CA) was named the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.

He now becomes the fourth Bulldog this season to receive recognition joining Darne Duckett (Defensive), Justice Marmara (Offensive), and Neil Owens (Defensive).

Romeo helped pace the Bulldogs to a 1-1 week in SCIAC play that saw the Bulldogs fall to Caltech, 84-73, and defeat California Lutheran, 83-76. Mays registered seven total blocks during the week including five in the win over the Kingsmen. He also added a steal in each game and pulled down 15 of his 17 rebounds for the week on the defensive glass. In addition, he chipped in 39 points, averaging 19.5 points per game. 

Redlands returns to the court tonight, January 17 when they host Chapman University beginning at 7:00pm.
