Redlands Coming into the Game

The University of Redlands is coming into the match-up 3-3.  They are coming off a road victory against George Fox University (88-75) and have won three of their last five including wins over Pacific (OR) (76-66) and Puget Sound (80-66).  To jump start the season they pushed pre-season ranked No. 19 Whitworth University falling 74-68.  UR has only played one game inside Currier Gym this season and at the end of 2021 will have played only two games at home out of eleven.    

The Bulldogs finished 2nd in the SCIAC Standings back in 2019-20 and have a new Head Coach in Eric Bridgeland, former Head Coach at Whitman College.  This season two Bulldogs have earned Athlete of the Week recognition including Justice Marmara (Offensive) and Darne Duckett (Defensive).            

Whittier Coming into the Game

Whittier has been red hot this season boasting a perfect 4-0 record, which includes wins over Cal Miramar (123-74), Bethesda University (99-97), Colorado College (88-75), and Embry Riddle (87-77).  They are off to the best start for the program since the 2009-10 season. 

The Poets are coming off an exhibition blowout loss to Division I UNLV 101-45.  They currently sit in a tie for 1st in the SCIAC Standings with Cal Lutheran and Chapman and have one SCIAC Athlete of the Week in Nick Colosi.         

Head-to-Head (Past Five Years)

Over the past five years the Bulldogs and Poets have put together some great matchups.  Whittier currently holds a 6-5 advantage, with all six wins coming from 2015-2018.  The Maroon and Grey though have won the last four meetings with the most recent wins coming in the 2019-20 season (105-86 & 105-90).  They also hold a SCIAC Tournament win over the Poets, which occurred back in 2016 (76-74) on the road.

By the Numbers

Redlands – The Bulldogs are averaging just 77 PPG, but shooting 44.5% from the field, 29.9% from three-point territory and 62.1% from the free-throw line.  Defensively is where the Maroon and Grey prove tough averaging 39.7 RPG per game, 27 of which are on the defensive glass.  They also pick up 8.2 steals per game and 3.5 blocks.  They are holding opponents to just 74.7 PPG, a 42.7% shooting percentage and a 31.8% three-point percentage.       

Whittier – The Poets are coming in averaging 99.3 PPG, shooting 50.6% from the field, 35.6% from three-point territory, and 79.7% from the free-throw line.  They put up the numbers both inside and out.  They have the height that helps them bring in 49.8 RPG and they have the guards that put out 20.5 assists per game.  They do turn the ball over though committing 19.5 turnovers per game along with allowing opponents to put up 80.8 PPG, while shooting 39.8% from the field and 30.4% from three-point territory.
